This is the first in a series of instructional books for a language that discloses that secret; a language that is, in the words of its architect, ala fois parlée, écrite, occulte et muette—“simultaneously spoken, written, hidden, and silent.” It is named Solresol: a strange word, but perhaps only to the uninitiated, given that the language is named according to its own terms: Solresol means ‘language’ in Solresol.
